Matt Hermann - Managing Director
Matt Hermann actively leads AHV's overall investing efforts. Matt is a board member or observer at several AHV portfolio companies, including BioImagene, BodyMedia, Millennium Pharmacy Systems, and ZONARE. He also serves on the board of BioEnterprise. Before joining AHV in 2001, he served as vice president with Atlantic Medical Management, LLC, a New York-based venture capital management company focused on early- to mid-stage healthcare services and information technology companies. Prior to that, Matt served in financial management roles at two publicly traded healthcare companies, Nutrition 21, Inc. and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and worked at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York City. He holds a BS in Engineering from Tufts University, and an MBA in Finance from New York University, Leonard N. Stern Graduate School of Business.
Tara Butler, M.D. - Investment Director
Tara Butler came to AHV in 2002 after completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She primarily focuses on investments in the medical device sector. Tara is a board member or observer at several AHV portfolio companies, including Augmenix, Hemosphere, ISTO Technologies, and Neurolutions. Prior to attending medical school, she held positions in business development at Medtronic, in finance at Honeywell and as a laboratory research assistant at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She is a junior member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and an Advisory Board Member of the Coriell Institute for Medical Research. She holds a BS in Economics and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Ryan Schuler - Investment Director
Ryan Schuler joined AHV in 2002 and primarily focuses on investments in the healthcare services sector. Ryan is a board member or observer for several AHV portfolio companies, including Aethon, Haven Behavioral, Impulse Monitoring, SeQual Technologies and SterilMed. Prior to joining AHV, Ryan worked in the mergers and acquisitions group at A.G. Edwards & Sons. He also worked in the transaction support and audit practices at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ryan earned his MBA, with honors, from Washington University in St. Louis and his BS in Accounting from Christian Brothers University.
Victor Kats - Investment Manager
Victor Kats joined AHV in 2009 from Allscripts-Misys, a $3 billion healthcare information technology company formed in October 2008 by the merger of Misys Healthcare Systems and Allscripts Healthcare Solutions. Victor is focused on investments in the healthcare technology sector. He brings more than 15 years of leadership experience to AHV, including an extensive background in mergers and acquisitions, corporate and business development, strategy and operations. At Allscripts-Misys, he served as Vice President of Corporate Development after fulfilling a similar role at Misys. Prior to his tenure at Misys, Victor served as a Vice President with Lehman Brothers where he focused on communications, media and technology sectors. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Walter Lin, M.D. - Investment Manager
Walter Lin joined AHV in 2007 from Catholic Healthcare West, where he served as the corporate Director of Clinical Innovations. Walter is primarily focused on investments in the medical device sector and is a board observer on AHV portfolio companies EKOS Corporation and Interventional Spine. At Catholic Healthcare West, he led a team focused on improving quality and decreasing costs by minimizing unnecessary variation in clinical practice patterns. He is a board-certified internist and maintains a part-time clinical practice. Walter holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco, an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, an MS from the University of California, Berkeley and a BAS in Economics and Biology from Stanford University. He completed his training in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Jeff Stolte - Investment Associate
Jeff Stolte joined AHV in 2007 from Ascension Health’s Strategic Development Group where he supported the health system’s executive leadership team on numerous strategic initiatives and business development activities since 2002. He is focused primarily on healthcare technology investments. Jeff is a board observer for AHV portfolio companies CHF Solutions and OptiScan Biomedical Corporation. Prior to his tenure at Ascension Health, Jeff served in product management and business development roles for entrepreneurial healthcare technology companies WebMD, WellMed and HealthLanguage. He holds a BA from the University of Chicago, an MS in Medical Informatics from the Oregon Health & Science University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Chuck Cohn, Investment Analyst
Chuck Cohn joined AHV in 2009 from the investment banking division of Wachovia, where he served as an analyst in the firm’s Energy & Power Group. Prior to his tenure at Wachovia, Chuck held positions in the Global Sourcing division of Harbour Group and the M&A group of A.G. Edwards & Sons and founded Varsity Tutors, a national academic tutoring service. He holds a BS in Business Administration in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Washington University in St. Louis.
Todd Miltenberger, Investment Analyst
Todd Miltenberger joined AHV in 2009 from the investment banking division of Wachovia, where he served as an analyst in the firm’s Energy & Power Group. Prior to his tenure at Wachovia, Todd held a position in the internal audit division of Anheuser-Busch. He holds a BS in Business with concentrations in finance and business economics from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Todd is also a certified SCUBA Rescue Diver.
Jamie Wehrung, CPA - Director, Finance and Administration
Jamie Wehrung joined AHV in 2001 and brings several years of accounting and finance experience to her position at AHV, including 17 years with Catholic healthcare systems. She joined AHV after three years as a senior analyst in the financial planning group at Ascension Health, AHV's parent organization. Prior to that, Jamie spent seven years in finance posts with Caritas Christi Healthcare System in Boston, the last three as director of finance. She began her career in the audit division of Deloitte & Touche LLP in Boston. A certified public accountant, she earned her BS in Accounting from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
